This collection contains printed and handwritten organizational documents, news clippings, correspondence, publications, proposals, legal documents, memoranda, and other documents relating to the history, organization, and activities of Friends of the North Golf Course (FNGC). Also included in this collection are audio and video recordings, maps, and architectural drawings. The collection is organized into the following seven series: FNGC Administration, Projects and Activities, the University of New Mexico Administration, Media, Related Organizations which includes materials relating to the Federation of University Neighborhoods (FUN), Netherwood Park Neighborhood Association, and North Campus Neighborhood Association, and Oversize - maps and drawings of North Golf Course and surrounding area.

The University of New Mexico was established by the Legislative Assembly of the Territory of New Mexico in 1889. It was to be located in Albuquerque. Elias Stover was appointed the first president. Friends of the North Golf Course (FNGC), was founded in 1986 as an Albuquerque, NM based citizen action group dedicated to preserving 96 acres of University of New Mexico land as an open and undeveloped recreational area. They lobbied both the UNM administration and New Mexico Legislature for planned development in the area that would protect the flora and fauna and preserve the greenspace.
